ABOUT ROAD HOUSE: The Play!

Bad Reputation’s debut production was a staged production of the film, Road House . It was rad.

First released as a film in 1989 and starring the late Patrick Swayze, Road House tells the timeless tale of a bar bouncer with a mysterious past who lives by his own rules, a small town terrorized by a wealthy senior citizen, a sexy doctor, and karate.  “ROAD HOUSE: The Play!” is the the magic that results from taking the original film script (written by David Lee Henry) and putting it on stage, and adding original songs.

“Why turn Road House into a play?” you ask?  Well… every time Shelley McLendon turned on the television way back in 2009, this movie was on. And she HAD to watch it EVERY time. And each time she watched it, she thought, “this movie rules and should be put on stage.” So she called on her talented pal, Courtenay Hameister, to help her out, and ROAD HOUSE: The Play! was born.

Debuting as a staged reading to a sold out crowd at the 2010 Fertile Ground Festival, the full production returned TWICE in spring, 2010 to more sold out crowds at The Someday Lounge.  You people cannot be satisfied, so we brought  it back in May, 2011  to a legitimate theater- The Ellyn Bye Studio (at the bottom of Portland Center Stage). The cast and crew were STOKED. And, yes, we sold out again.
